Usability Studies - Tanks

Taken and inspired by a current usability problem we have at EZ Ops - our tanking solution. We are looking to add a new tank and tank reading module at EZ Ops.

  • Tanks are essential in oil and gas for many reasons.
  • Tanks can be used to store produced products, such as oil.
  • Tanks can also be used to store waste products such as wastewater.
  • Tanks can also hold chemicals and other products that make production more efficient such as methanol, which prevents hydrate formation that can freeze a pipeline in colder temperatures.

Sites can have many tanks, and we want operators to be able to take tank readings when they are on-site to ensure production/consumption is meeting expectations.

  • Tanks come in many different sizes. It is essential to ensure they are identified in some way in our application to ensure even new operators know what tank reading area corresponds to which tank out in the field.
  • It is very important to also show previous readings with a user and timestamp so operators can quickly see the last time a tank reading was taken and its rate.
Task -

With the usage of the people in the room, discover a solution to the given problem, and create a low-fidelity mockup to foster collaboration.

Sketches

Low Fidelity - Process

Comments

  • I have shown different sketches that informed my design decision on this low fidelity prototype
  • With each sketch ideas, I was able to get a good understanding of the problem considering the user.
  • Specifics around work package identifier, site map, tank equipment tag, key tank data, employee identifiers can be reviewed and designed to be better suited.
